Job Description
The Web Developer for the UT College of Arts and Sciences Office of Communications works with the Digital Communications Manager to ensure the functionality of all web properties in the college. This position ensures professional website consultations, information accuracy on websites, and website security across all college web properties. The web developer will manage full college website redesigns; the creation and implementation of custom website features; secure and optimal server hosting environments; assist in website updates and maintenance and conduct analyses of web properties.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain college websites, including tasks such as mapping, wireframing, setting up WordPress instances, creating custom CSS for new themes, and supporting website development for various departments, programs, and units.
- Provide IT maintenance to ensure secure and optimal server hosting environments.
- Implement digital content archival solutions.
- Conduct training sessions and create documentation for web administrators during site launches.
- Research and stay updated on WordPress versions, plug-ins, accessibility standards, multi-site configurations, and other best practices in digital communication.
- Support the digital team by updating external websites, intranet sites, and other relevant information as needed.
- Set up and manage website analytics, and offer SEO guidance and best practices to enhance department websites.

- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of professional experience directly related to website development (or a high school diploma and at least 7 years of professional experiences as a web developer/designer)
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Detailed knowledge of web coding and standards and the process of ground-up website development
- Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other web languages and frameworks, particularly PHP, JavaScript, and bootstrap
- Detailed knowledge working with WordPress, MySQL, and phpMyAdmin.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
Detailed Knowledge working with Google analytics - Detailed knowledge of web accessibility standards, web best practices, and the principles of user-centered design
- Knowledge of SEO
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proven written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver multiple projects on a rolling delivery schedule
- Ability to present concepts and designs to campus partners or team members in a clear, confident manner
- Ability to produce creative work within a system of established templates and content delivery systems
- Ability to exhibit sound judgment; work well independently and as a member of a collaborative team; act professionally; provide and be receptive to feedback and constructive criticism; be a self-motivated learner; teach, mentor, and share knowledge with others; and build and maintain good customer satisfaction for the College of Arts and Sciences Office of Communications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree
- Experience: at least one year of professional experience directly related to website development
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of web coding and standards and the process of ground-up website development and accessibility standards
- Detailed knowledge of server environments such as WP Engine and Linux
- General knowledge of multisite management
- General knowledge of the principles of effective communication, marketing, and advertising (particularly in online media)
- Advanced interactive design and information architecture skills
- Basic ability to design graphics for web
- Ability to think conceptually and critically and make use of good political and negotiation skills
- Advocates for best practices in electronic communications
- Knowledge of higher education.

Compensation and Benefits
- UT market range: Market Range 10
- Anticipated hiring range: $60,000 - $65,000
