This position, Biomedical Research Grant Writer (BGW), supports medical school faculty in developing and writing the scientific components of their grant proposals. The BGW's primary role is to help faculty articulate their research ideas, hypotheses, and methodologies in a clear, compelling, and concise manner. The BGW does not handle budget development or compliance documentation, enabling them to concentrate on strengthening the scientific narrative of each proposal. Based on the candidate's qualifications, the BGW may be hired as either a staff member or faculty.
Required Skills
Key Responsibilities:
o Collaborate with faculty to develop and refine the scientific narrative of grant proposals, including research questions, hypotheses, study design, and methodologies.
o Review and edit the scientific content to ensure clear, coherent, and concise proposals aligned with the funding agency's objectives.
o Provide feedback and suggestions to strengthen the scientific arguments and the overall impact of the proposal.
o Identify and convey the relevant literature, preliminary data, and scientific evidence to support the proposal's research objectives.
o Remain current on scientific trends and advancements in relevant fields to help faculty effectively shape their proposals.
o Analyze feedback from peer reviewers or funding agencies on the scientific aspects of the proposal and assist in revising and resubmitting proposals when appropriate.
o Work closely with faculty to understand their research projects and provide expert advice on the scientific presentation of their ideas to the review team, which may not be expert in the PI's specific field or who may speak English as a second language.
o Coordinate with other team members responsible for budgets and grant coordination to ensure that the scientific narrative is well-integrated into the overall proposal.
o Facilitate workshops focused on scientific writing and grant proposal strategies to support faculty development.
Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., life sciences, health sciences, biomedical sciences). A Master's or Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
o Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in scientific writing, particularly within the context of grant proposals.
o Demonstrated success in writing or contributing to funded scientific proposals.
o Exceptional scientific writing and editing skills.
o The ability to present complex research ideas clearly and persuasively.
o Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, particularly in the context of scientific content.
o Familiarity with scientific literature and research methodologies relevant to biomedical and health sciences.
