Job Summary:

Nature of work:

The Department of Pathology seeks a full-time Faculty member for the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor whose primary role will be to serve as an expert, academic hematopathologist attending and Medical Director for the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) Hematology Laboratory. This effort will be focused in subspecialty areas of hematopathology but may include additional responsibilities in surgical pathology or other clinical pathology. Experience/familiarity with the newest WHO classification system, including working knowledge of flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular genetics are expected. The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team, inclusive of senior hematopathologists and molecular pathologists as well as clinicians and surgeons, thus strong communication and professionalism skills are expected. Given the acute nature of the work, night and weekend call in rotation with other attending hematopathologists will be required. This position is an academic post, hence scholarly activities and teaching are expected and time for these activities will be provided.

Employment expectations:
  • Evaluate and prepare interpretive reports for blood, bone marrow, lymph node, body fluid, and other tissue/organ specimens. Samples may be derived from the clinical pathology labs of UCH (inclusive of flow cytometry, hematology, etc.), departmental laboratories, or affiliated hospitals, including surgical pathology, cytopathology, medical autopsy tissues, or samples submitted through the Colorado Genetics Lab (CGL) or the Colorado Molecular Correlates Lab (CMOCO) as tests or consultations.
  • Review outside cases, provide clinical consultation for cases assigned to your colleagues, prepare and participate in multidisciplinary conferences.
  • Cover hematopathology night and weekend on-call in rotation with other hematopathologists.
  • Provide medical, scientific, and administrative leadership for operations of the UCH hematology laboratory.
  • Produce scholarship as defined by the CU School of Medicine promotion matrix.
  • Teach pathology residents, fellows and medical students and provide continuing education to laboratory staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor.
  • Medical degree (i.e., MD or DO)
  • Board certification by the American Board of Pathology
  • Able to qualify and obtain a full unrestricted license to practice pathology in the State of Colorado
  • Able to obtain credentials and privileges at the University of Colorado Hospital and with CU Medicine
  • Board certified or board eligible in Hematopathology at the time of faculty appointment.

Associate Professor:
  • Medical degree (i.e., MD or DO)
  • Board certification by the American Board of Pathology
  • Able to qualify and obtain a full unrestricted license to practice pathology in the State of Colorado
  • Able to obtain credentials and privileges at the University of Colorado Hospital and with CU Medicine
  • Board certified in Hematopathology with at least 5 years of experience practicing hematopathology post-fellowship. Demonstrated clinical, teaching and scholarly accomplishments must be sufficient for an appointment to the rank of Associate Professor.

Professor:
  • Medical degree (i.e., MD or DO)
  • Board certification by the American Board of Pathology
  • Able to qualify and obtain a full unrestricted license to practice pathology in the State of Colorado
  • Able to obtain credentials and privileges at the University of Colorado Hospital and with CU Medicine
  • Board certified in Hematopathology with at least 12 years of experience practicing hematopathology post-fellowship. Demonstrated clinical, teaching and scholarly accomplishments must be sufficient for an appointment to the rank of Professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Training or experience in other areas of pathology with relevant scholarly publications is desirable.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: (100% FTE for this position)

Assistant Professor - $220,000 to $260,000

Associate Professor - $260,000 to $310,000

Professor - $300,000 to $360,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
