Job Description: Southside Virginia Community College is seeking exceptional candidates for a 9-month Nurse Aide Instructor Program Director position. The nurse aide instructor, a nine-month full-time faculty member at Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC), is responsible for planning, teaching, and evaluating students in the classroom, skill lab, and clinical settings. This role contributes to delivering quality instruction aligned with the VA Board of Nursing (BON) curriculum standards for Nurse Aide and Medication Aide courses.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Follow the VA BON Curriculum for Nurse Aide and Medication Aide courses
- Familiarize yourself with the SVCC faculty handbook, college catalog, and policies
- Attend designated meetings as scheduled by the SVCC and Dean of Nursing Allied Health and Natural Sciences
- Maintain professional competence, complete Train the Trainer for Nurse Aide Instructors and Train the Trainer for Medication Aide Instructors and update as required
- Ensure compliance with VA Board of Nursing Nurse Aide and Medication Aide Program Laws and Regulations
- Prepare for and conduct classroom, skill lab, and clinical rotations within specified timelines
- Participate in Canvas training and other professional development activities
- Plan and collaborate with DE coordinators on clinical rotation plans, assigned agencies, and student groups
- Attend mandatory student orientations for classroom, skill lab, and clinical sites
Additional Job Duties related to Clinical Instruction:
- Select patient assignments and plan learning experiences based on course objectives and student needs
- Review clinical objectives, conduct pre/post conferences, and supervise student skill demonstrations
- Ensure holistic best practices in instruction and clinical settings
- Serve as a role model and resource for student clinical groups
- Provide hands-on supervision and guidance using nursing process principles
- Maintain accessibility to students during clinical rotations
- Resolve issues calmly and promptly, reporting concerns to the program coordinator as needed
- Complete student disciplinary and grievance procedures
- Review and maintain accurate student attendance records, clinical performance, and skill proficiency
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure students do not perform services without demonstrated proficiency
- Attend scheduled VA BON seminars and meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Program Coordination & Compliance:
- Oversee compliance with Virginia Board of Nursing (BON) Nurse Aide and Medication Aide Program Laws and Regulations
- Complete annual BON program assessments and required reports to maintain program approval and accreditation
- Prepare for and participate in BON site visits every two years, ensuring all documentation and compliance requirements are met
- Maintain accreditation records and ensure adherence to SVCC DE (Distance Education) program assessment requirements
- Attend scheduled meetings and VA BON seminars yearly
- Collaborate with clinical agencies to secure appropriate clinical placements and maintain strong site relationships
- Ensure all students and faculty adhere to clinical site guidelines and complete necessary documentation
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Unrestricted RN license in Virginia (or multistate privilege).
- Two years of RN experience, including one year in long-term care.
- Completion of Board-approved Train-the-Trainer programs for Nurse Aide and Medication Aide Instructors.
- Must possess the ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population
- Competency in and dedication to the use of instructional technologies is required
- Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources
- Demonstrated teaching skills
- Excellent communications skills
- An understanding of the community college environment and mission
Additional Considerations:
- Teaching experience at the college level
- Community college teaching experience
- Knowledge of VA BON regulations, nursing education, and accreditation processes.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in teaching, clinical supervision, and program coordination preferred.
- Worked in a nursing home setting
